Sandcastles Program: Children of Divorce Workbook
Sandcastles Program: Children of Divorce Workbook
More than 250,000 children throughout the world have completed Gary’s Sandcastles Program. As part of the interactive program, children receive these agerelated workbooks, taking the workbook to complete much of it at home. One of the mistakes that adults make is expecting children to just state their feelings to us so that we can help them. But serious, complicated feelings are never easy to express and discuss. Fifteen years ago, when Gary developed the Sandcastles Program, he discovered that children of divorce are willing and ready to express their feelings but parents have to give them the right atmosphere and tools to do that.
The Sandcastles ProgramTM Workbooks use a “projective” technique throughout. This means that each agespecific book helps children “project out” the emotions that are within instead of lecturing children or telling them what adults think they should or should not be feeling. We heal the most when we can express ourselves and feel that someone who loves us genuinely understands us. These workbooks are designed to be used either alone by the child or together with a parent, counselor or other helper. The workbooks can be used as the necessary springboard for important communication that otherwise might not have been reached without the child feeling safe and comfortable. If you’ve read Helping Your Kids Cope with Divorce the Sandcastles Way, you’ll have noticed the many drawings, poems and letters developed by children. These were all created by children through using the Sandcastles Workbooks.
